Understanding critical travel information in sign language—even while on the move
[ Why Is This Needed? ]
Public transportation is an essential public service used daily by millions of people.
Inside stations and vehicles, important information—such as arrival announcements, transfer guidance, and safety notices—
is primarily delivered through audio announcements.
For Deaf passengers who use sign language as their primary language,
these audio-based announcements are difficult to understand in real time.
In situations such as train delays, service disruptions, accidents, or emergency changes,
missing information can lead to confusion and safety risks.
SignTong Transportation was designed so that even while traveling,
Deaf passengers can instantly understand essential transit information through sign language.
[ How Is It Used? ]
▲ Example: Sign language avatar announcement on Seoul Subway Line 7
Seoul Metro applied SignTong sign language avatar announcement systems
to newly introduced trains on Subway Line 7.
When the train is in operation and announcements occur—
including arrival information, transfer guidance, congestion updates, or emergency safety alerts—
the same information is displayed on in-car screens,
accompanied by text and sign language avatar video simultaneously.
This enables Deaf passengers to:
understand information visually,
regardless of surrounding noise levels,
or whether audio announcements are clearly audible.
→ A transportation environment where no one is left out of information while on the move. .
[ What Changes? ]
Deaf passengers can travel with confidence by understanding information in real time.
Improved accessibility of transit information
Moves beyond audio-only systems to inclusive, multimodal communication.
Increased trust in public transportation services
Clear, accessible guidance strengthens trust in transit authorities.
Applicable not only to subways, but also to buses, airports, and terminals.
