Sign Language Education That Begins at Home Changes a Child’s Learning Journey.
[ Why Is This Needed? ]
More than 90% of Deaf children are born to hearing parents.
Yet in most families, there is no structured environment where the entire family learns sign language together.
When communication at home is limited, children may experience social isolation
or miss out on important learning opportunities within the family.
Research shows that the age at which Deaf children first acquire language
has a significant impact on their later language development and academic achievement.
Children who are exposed to sign language early demonstrate
meaningfully higher levels of reading comprehension and learning outcomes.
SignTong Edu was created to help Deaf children and their families
learn and communicate naturally through sign language at home.
[ How Is It Used? ]

▲ SignTong Edu sign language learning platform interface
For families with Deaf children,
we developed a sign language education application based on Google’s Android TV platform.
Using the microphone built into the remote control,
families can search for words by voice and instantly access the sign language dictionary.
Through a 3D sign language avatar, users can observe movements from multiple angles—front, side, and more—
making it easier for both children and family members to understand and practice the signs together.
Since its launch at the end of 2021, the service has operated for four years,
supporting family communication and early sign language acquisition.
To date, more than 100 families have used the platform.
The overall user satisfaction score is 90.8 out of 100,
demonstrating the potential of a home-centered sign language education model.
→ Sign language education becomes a shared family experience in the familiar environment of the TV at home.
